Balaji S. Srinivasan is currently an angel investing. He is formerly the CTO of Coinbase and General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, he was also the co-founder of (acquired by Coinbase), Counsyl (acquired by Myriad), Teleport (acquired by Topia), and Coin Center.


Balaji graduated from Stanford University, Departments of Developmental Biology and Electrical Engineering in 2006. Worked on bioinformatics, genome sequencing, computational statistics, and machine learning before it was cool. Authored and co-authored papers on microbial and human genomics, pharmacogenetics, genetics of complex diseases, functional genomics, population genetics, and Mendelian disease.

Prior to joining Coinbase, Dr. Srinivasan was CEO at, which was acquired by Coinbase. Before taking the CEO role at, he was a General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Prior to joining Andreessen Horowitz, he was the co-founder and CTO of Counsyl, where he won a Wall Street Journal Innovation Award for Medicine and was named to the MIT TR35. He took the company from inception in a Stanford dorm room to testing ~3% of all births in the United States. Responsible for the scientific codebase, marketing, design, public relations, recruiting, training, fundraising, and technical vision as we grew from an idea on a napkin to one of the largest clinical genome centers in the world. Counsyl was ultimately sold for $375M to Myriad.

Dr. Srinivasan holds a BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. He also teaches the occasional class at Stanford, including an online MOOC in 2013 which reached 250,000+ students worldwide.
