History of foundation
Huawei was founded on September 15, 1987, by Ren Zhengfei, former deputy head of the engineers’ corps of the People’s Liberation Army of China, with approximately 20 000 yuan of start-up capital. The name “Huawei” consists of 2 parts and has a multiple meaning. “Hua”-excellent, magnificent, but often is translated as “China” or “Ethnic Chinese.” «Wei» – “Achievement.” Although some people say, this name was created by Ren himself and means nothing, but sounds well.
Initially, Huawei was focused on manufacturing phone switches and then has expanded its business to telecommunications networks building and providing operational and consulting services and equipment to enterprises inside and outside of China. In 2014 Huawei net profit was $5,5 billion.
Huawei works with stakeholders including suppliers, partners, industry organizations, open-source communities, standards organizations, universities, and research institutes all over the world to cultivate a broader ecosystem that thrives on shared success.
Huawei provides innovative and secure network equipment to telecom carriers, provides its industry customers with open, flexible, and secure ICT infrastructure products, provides customers with stable, secure, and trustworthy cloud services that evolve with their needs. During its existence, the company has built over 1,500 networks in more than 170 countries and regions.
Management and control system
Huawei is a private company wholly owned by its employees. Through the Union of Huawei Investment & Holding Co., Ltd., company implements an Employee Shareholding Scheme that involves 96,768 employee shareholders. This scheme is limited to employees. No government agency or outside organization holds shares in Huawei.
Shareholding employees elect 115 representatives to form the Representatives Commission. This Commission elects the chairman of the Board and the remaining 16 board directors. The Board of Directors elects four deputy chairs and three executive directors. Three deputy chairs take turns serving as the company’s rotating chairman. While in office the rotating chairman leads the Board of Directors and its Executive Committee. Meanwhile, the chairman of the Board chairs the Representatives’ Commission.
Huawei in blockchain
In 2016 Huawei joined Hyperledger, a multi-project open source collaborative effort hosted by The Linux Foundation, created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies. For its technical and code contributions in Fabric and STL sub-projects, Huawei has been claimed as a key Hyperledger maintainer and the only maintainer from Asia in these sub-projects.
Huawei Cloud
Huawei Cloud – is a blockchain-based cloud service Service (BCS) for global use officially launched by Huawei in October 2018. The service helps enterprises and developers to create, manage, and deploy blockchain applications quickly and at low cost. Its global launch lays the basis for a distributed global blockchain platform.
Huawei Cloud is focused on developing its blockchain platform to offer technical support for enterprises that develop blockchain applications and solutions.
Huawei Cloud BCS provides enterprises with a solid basis for innovation and development to build a better world.

In May 2018 Huawei has announced about the opportunity to download Bitcoin (BTC) wallets on new Huawei devices and released BTC.com’s Bitcoin wallet in its AppGallery app store.
